Chris Eden from Sony Computer Entertainment made mention of PLAYSTATION Store on PSP in his Game Developers Conference session. Currently, players must use a PC in order to download content and transfer it to the PSP. Going forward, PSP fans will be able to download games directly to their systems from within the PSP itself. “Access native PLAYSTATION Store on PSP via wireless hotspot,” the slide notes. “Purchase and download content direct to PSP (no USB cable).” Launch is currently “TBA.” More details are promised for the future. Let’s hope we don’t have to wait too long.

The next limited edition PSP system is designed for the new Gundam game. Sporting a red face and a black back, the system is tattooed with the “Principality of Zeon” and a logo. This limited edition system comes bundled with the upcoming game and will be priced 25,890 Yen (around $212). The bundle hits the Japanese populace on February 7th.

Everyday Shooter

Jon Mak’s music-shooter is perfect for PSP fans already familiar to Q? Entertainment’s Lumines and Every Extend Extra. The game’s unique album presentation will be great for gamers on the go: play a single song, or enter Shuffle mode and play ‘em all. With a good pair of headphones on, we’d find ourselves lost in the killer soundtrack for hours. The minimalist graphics are perfect for the PSP’s small screen too.

Japan continues to get the primo packaging for its games. The Dracula X Chronicles comes with a fancy art book, keychain, PSP pouch and more in the deluxe Japanese release. PSP GadgetZ was able to get their hands on the incredible package and they have a ton of pics right here. It may be pricey at $100, but the hardcore Castlevania fans may want to lay down some cash.

Tired of waiting for SCEA to bring the official GPS peripheral to the States? A cable manufacturer is trying to ease the pain by allowing you to connect standard third party GPS devices to the PSP. Obviously, it’ll require a bit of tricky “haxz0rzing,” but there’s plenty of documentation on how to make your PSP an affordable GPS device. With a new upcoming cable, it’ll even work on the new PSP-2000 systems.

It’s been a while hasn’t it? Finally, after months of nothing — we have a new downloadable demo to enjoy. Seemingly coming out of nowhere, here’s Warhammer 40,000: Squad Command. This strategy game has some pretty good looks, and will attempt to teach you the very basics on how to play the game.

1. Download the demo zip file.
2. Extract the contents of the zip file.
3. Connect your PSP to your computer using a USB cable.
4. Go to the PSP/GAME folder.
5. Copy ULUS10313 folder into the GAME directory. Make sure there are no sub-directories in this folder.

Oh no! You’re in the middle of SOCOM: Tactical Strike, and as you’re about to infiltrate the terrorist stronghold, you see your PSP’s power indicator flashing. You haven’t reached a checkpoint yet, and you certainly don’t want to give up now! What are you to do? Act like Batman.

A cute new device in Japan allows users to charge their PSP (and other mobile devices) simply by connecting it to a handy wristband. The inconspicuous accessory will provide an extra 3.5 hours of battery life for your PSP when you need it. We’re hoping that future versions of this peripheral will allow you to shoot a grappling hook, spider webs, and lasers. Considering this is from Japan, we’re nearly certain it’ll happen.
