According to Chart Track, an independent sales tracking company, the DS has sold 4 million in the United Kingdom. That isn’t the only interesting piece of the news coming out of this, however, as Nintendo reveals that over half of these 4 million consumers (about 66%) were female. One in four DS owners are also into the brain exercises, apparently, as it is revealed that Dr Kawashima’s Brain Training: How Old Is Your Brain? sold over 1 million copies in the region.

Tired of waiting for SCEA to bring the official GPS peripheral to the States? A cable manufacturer is trying to ease the pain by allowing you to connect standard third party GPS devices to the PSP. Obviously, it’ll require a bit of tricky “haxz0rzing,” but there’s plenty of documentation on how to make your PSP an affordable GPS device. With a new upcoming cable, it’ll even work on the new PSP-2000 systems.

It’s been a while hasn’t it? Finally, after months of nothing — we have a new downloadable demo to enjoy. Seemingly coming out of nowhere, here’s Warhammer 40,000: Squad Command. This strategy game has some pretty good looks, and will attempt to teach you the very basics on how to play the game.

1. Download the demo zip file.
2. Extract the contents of the zip file.
3. Connect your PSP to your computer using a USB cable.
4. Go to the PSP/GAME folder.
5. Copy ULUS10313 folder into the GAME directory. Make sure there are no sub-directories in this folder.

A cute new device in Japan allows users to charge their PSP (and other mobile devices) simply by connecting it to a handy wristband. The inconspicuous accessory will provide an extra 3.5 hours of battery life for your PSP when you need it. We’re hoping that future versions of this peripheral will allow you to shoot a grappling hook, spider webs, and lasers. Considering this is from Japan, we’re nearly certain it’ll happen.

IGN’s gameplay impressions of the less-discussed DS version of Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games were mostly positive: there’s a tantalizing possibility of online play, the 3D engine is apparently pleasing, and the game contains all the same events as the Wii version.

Unfortunately, the description of the game’s controls is troubling for us, and probably money in the bank for companies who produce DS screen protectors. Most of the game’s events are controlled by moving the stylus back and forth as rapidly as possible in a prescribed direction to build up speed or power.

It may be fun, or it may just be a shortcut to a deep groove carved into your touch screen. Between this and the DS version of the notoriously controller-assassinating Mario Party, is any DS safe?
