UK residents can now get their hands on a DS Lite for free, given that they need a cell phone. Orange contracts, a cell phone plan provider in the UK, is now handing out Nintendo’s handheld to new customers. We don’t know much about the company or the offer (probably because we live nowhere near the UK), but we’re sure it’s worth it.

It is a DS Lite, after all.

Crush withstanding, Sega’s efforts on PSP have been less than stellar. Games like Full Auto 2 simply failed to realize the potential of the PSP platform. Sega continued to release games that felt unfinished, in spite of their claim to “love” the PSP. Well, it looks as though that’s going to change. European media outlets have recently tried Sega’s latest, and initial impressions of the upcoming Sega Rally have been surprisingly positive. In fact, they’re downright glowing.

Eurogamer is raving that “they have absolutely nailed the handling. Triumphantly. Sublimely.” Certainly, those are powerful words to choose. Pocket Gamer noted that “it’s a sumptuous affair, with vibrant and impressively detailed settings flying past at convincing speed.” They also added “it’s a lot of fun – we found ourselves playing the game for enjoyment rather than just duty, which certainly isn’t a common occurrence.” We can certainly understand that feeling!

Finally, Games Radar added that “the frame-rate is smooth and it’s very fast - like having your own pocket coin-op. Having played the big version, we were expecting to be disappointed by the PSP’s cut-down visuals, but we’re not. It’s a corker.” What’s a corker? Our uninformed American minds may not understand that, but we can certainly see that these media outlets have all thoroughly enjoyed Sega Rally. We weren’t expecting that at all! Hopefully, we’ll be able to try the game for ourselves, and confirm their ravish previews.

Those of you who’ve been eagerly awaiting Square Enix’s latest title on the DS will have to wait extra long, as the company has announced that Dragon Quest IX has been delayed until 2008. The reason for delaying the game? Square Enix apparently needs to improve the quality of the game, but we’re going on machine translation, so it isn’t the best.

Who will be joining us for a cry session in the corner?

Gamespot UK has a new batch of Medal of Honor Heroes 2 screenshots showing off the standard WWII action the series is known for. The screens look pretty darn good for a PSP game, though the resolution they were released at is a little suspicious. Whenever a company releases screenshots at a much higher resolution than the system is capable of, its hard to tell if they’re legitimate images or just another example of a ‘bullshot’.

Alright, Mistwalker. We’ve seen the scans, and even these beautiful portraits of mages, thieves and more can’t tempt us from our real desire. We want video on Archaic Sealed Heat. We want website updates. We want more! But at this rate, with the game less than two months away, we may not get much more than we already have — and that makes us very sad. We need more opportunities to express our need for this game (and to make sure we do need it) so that someone starts localizing it. The sooner the better, we say.

A tale of two box arts. Which will you choose? Pay attention: these two similar, but different, box arts for Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops Plus have a crucial difference awaiting on the inside. One is the “Deluxe Edition” — can you guess which one?

The red cover on the right is for the premium edition, which not only includes a cool box, but also includes both MGS: Portable Ops Plus and the original Portable Ops. You will need the original in order to play the expansion pack, so those that missed the original will certainly want to pick up the combined bundle. The Japanese price for both? A mere $45.

No American release has been confirmed, but Amazon has already listed the game for a November release. Hopefully, the US will also receive its own ultra-value “Deluxe Edition.”

After receiving the much-feared AO rating from the ESRB, Take-Two Interactive had no choice but to delay Rockstar’s Manhunt 2 and edit some of its more questionable moments. It looks like whatever they did, the ESRB is now satisfied enough to give the game a toned down, but still restrictive M rating. With an M rating, the game can now be sold in retail stores — something the AO rating didn’t allow.

“Manhunt 2 is important to us, and we’re glad it can finally be appreciated as a gaming experience,” said Sam Houser, founder and executive producer of Rockstar Games. “We love the horror genre. Manhunt 2 is a powerful piece of interactive story telling that is a unique video game experience. We think horror fans will love it.”

With an M rating secured, Mahunt 2 will ship to retailers this Halloween, October 31st.
